ACC – Adaptive Cruise Control – Retrofit Discovery 4

ACC – Adaptive Cruise Control – Retrofit Discovery 4

12. October 2020 Off By Kenny

Here you will find a description of how we have successfully retrofitted and activated Adaptive Speed Control (ACC) – a speed/distance control function supported by the front radar – in a Land Rover Discovery. The vehicle version under consideration is an LR L319 Discovery 4 (2012-2016 only)

An obligatory and necessary notice in advance:
The radar sensor was retrofitted with original parts and these original parts were installed according to Land Rover’s installation specifications. The configuration of the vehicle software was carried out with the help of a diagnostic system of the company GAP (IID Tool Pro BT). No vehicle settings were “self-programmed”, only configurations that are already available for selection in the original Land Rover software were parameterized. We are currently in contact with the testing companies who have already indicated to us that the registration of this conversion should be possible. However, we will only find out exact details about this and also about the effort and costs in the next few days/weeks.

For this reason we would like to point out that we cannot assume any liability or guarantee for the correctness or legality of the information collected here. The installation and programming is at your own risk and with the knowledge that under certain circumstances (we do not yet know this conclusively) the operating licence of the vehicle will expire – even if only hardware and software provided by the manufacturer “Land Rover” is used.

If you decide to retrofit the ACC in your vehicle according to our instructions this is at your own risk! Of course, the presence of an assistance system does NEVER release the driver from his unrestricted duty of attention!

Compatibility:

A factory pre-installed wiring harness is required for retrofitting, which extends to the bracket for the radar sensor in the front bumper. This should already be present on vehicles from the model years MY2012-2016 Discovery 4. This wire harness is required to connect the radar sensor hardware to the vehicle.

Hardware
Installation of Land Rover hardware:
First of all you need the radar sensor which is installed behind the front bumper at the designated place (original bracket). The following models should be suitable for this purpose (without guarantee): BH32-9G768-AD, DPLA-9G768-AD, LR062476

Furthermore, the control unit is required, which enables the operation of the ACC on the left side of the steering wheel. The part numbers are: LR030358 or LR062417 (14K147B). For further cabling the wiring harness (LR051624, 13N866B) is used.

SOFTWARE:
Once all hardware is properly connected, the configuration of the control units can be done. For this purpose it is necessary to update the IID tool to the latest version (V4.0 B2742).

After updating the software of the programming device, these settings must be configured in the CCF:

Note: In the meantime, we have noticed with some vehicles that the configuration only works if the value Speed Control is set to the entry “Speed Control”.

Configuration for the ccf

In detail we have configured these settings:

  • Speed Control: “Adaptive Speed Control is Fitted
  • Adaptive Speed Control ECU: “UK/Rest of the world
  • Adaptive Speed Control ECU: “Standard Bloackage Level -40dB
  • Standard Speed Control Display Type: “Adaptive Speed Control Full Display Plus Priority Messages
  • Adaptive Cruise Control Indication in Instrument Cluster: “enabled
  • Speed Control: “Adaptive Speed Control, Stop and Go
  • Forward Collision Warning: “Forward Collision Warning GEN1

Afterwards, the sensor can be initialized in the Calibration menu “Adaptive Align” and this starts the sensor initial calibration.

Now you have to drive with the vehicle some kilometers so that the system initializes itself. After that the system is ready for use.

The information regarding configuration has been developed with the assistance of Patrick Meilleur, technical expert, for the IID-BT tool @ Gap-Diagnostics, thanks to Patrick. The installation of the hardware components was done at DiscoveryParts or our partner workshop, the car garage M. Kupski.
