IID Tool from GAP – Steps before first use

The IID Tool Pro from GAP is one of the most powerful diagnostic and programming systems for Land Rover vehicles available on the market. Even Land Rover diagnostic engineers tell us that the IID Tool can perform certain tasks better or easier.

Even though the basic operation of the tool is very simple, there are a few things that should definitely be considered. We will deal with these points here in this article:

 

Before the first use:

After you have received the IID tool you have to update it to the newest version and activate it. This is necessary because the tools are partly in stock at the dealers and the software is continuously developed.

1. Creating an account on the manufacturer’s site
   • Please call up this page on your computer: https://www.gap-diagnostic.com/register/
   • Create a user account there.
   • Check your mail (AND the spam folder) – often the mail is sorted out as spam, probably because it comes from Canada and is in English. Click on the activation link in this mail.
2. Log in to your user account
   • Now log in to your account: https://www.gap-diagnostic.com/my-account/
   • Switch to the tab “Product Activation and Management
   • Switch to the tab “Updater Download
   • Download the updater software
   • Updating the IID Tool Firmware
   • Start the IIDTool Updater software on your PC or MAC
   • Plug the IID tool with a cable into a free USB port of your computer and wait about 10 seconds
   • Click on the button “Find Device” in the software, then you should see information about the tool
   • Click on the field “Updates” and confirm the update with “Yes” and then with the
   • “Program Firmware” Button
3.  Installing the app on your Android or Apple smartphone
   • Search in your Play Store or App Store for the app called “IIDControl” and install the app on your smartphone
4.  Activation of the IID tool and binding to your VIN
   • the normal IID tool contains a license for exactly one vehicle, if you want to program several vehicles, you can purchase additional licenses later
   • To activate the IID tool please proceed as follows:
   • Park the vehicle safely, turn on the ignition, do not start the engine (foot off the brake when pressing the start button)
   • Plug the IID Tool into the OBD port on the left under the steering wheel, then wait about 30 seconds until the vehicle display shows “IID Tool Ready
   • Connect to your smartphone and the app (see point 4) with the IID tool
   • Now you should get a message that says: “Tool is not activated” please press “resume
   • Then go to the menu item: “IIDTool Menu – Enter Unlock Code
   • A 10-digit code appears there, please note this code
   • Then enter this code in the user account (see point 2) under the tab Activation
5.  Activation of a further VIN for an IID tool
   • If you want to program a second vehicle with an IID tool, you have to buy an additional license

   • Then simply log into the user account and go to the tab Activation
   • You will also get an info by mail after buying the license.
